Eve Furse spent much of her professional life as a public servant. Getting an undergraduate degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from New York University, Eve eventually settled in Utah following a wonderful year clerking for Utah Supreme Court Chief Justice Christine Durham, skiing, mountain biking, and hiking.

Most recently, Eve retired after serving as the elected County Clerk for Summit County, Utah. (She now has more time to enjoy said skiing, mountain biking, and hiking.) As County Clerk she oversaw election administration for the County and, by contract, its municipalities’ elections.

This position drew her interest following a law career, including serving as a Senior City Attorney for Salt Lake City and as a United States Federal Magistrate Judge for the District of Utah. After all,

No right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the laws under which, as good citizens, we must live. Other rights, even the most basic, are illusory if the right to vote is undermined.

During her time as County Clerk, Utah had a pilot program allowing municipalities to use Ranked Choice Voting. In preparing for this possibility, Eve learned about the administration of Ranked Choice Voting Elections.

Understanding personally that many election officials come into their positions with a great deal of good will but not a great deal of training, she found the Ranked Choice Voting Resource Center invaluable. Eve now seeks to help other election administrators by supporting the opportunities and resources offered by the Ranked Choice Voting Resource Center.
