Alton P. Dillard II - Board Member
Alton P. Dillard II is a communications consultant with a career in media relations that spans over 30 years. He has experience in a range of roles, including talk show host, anchor, reporter, and sportscaster.
His public service includes a term as Press Secretary and Senior Aide to former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Most recently, in December of 2022, Dillard completed a 17-year period as Communications Manager and Public Information Officer for the Office of the Denver County Clerk and Recorder.
In 2022, he received his Certified Elections and Registration Administrator (CERA) from the Election Center at Auburn University. This certification is a professional credential in elections administration.
Upon his semi-retirement from full-time government work, Dillard reactivated his communications consultancy, The Dillard Group, LLC. He provides communications guidance and strategic consulting to various clients. His partnerships include Uber, One Chance to Grow Up, The Elections Group, Hancock Global, and Centro Inc. He also serves as an advisor for Ranked Choice Voting Colorado and is a Senior Advisor for the firm of Rockford Gray. Dillard is a contributing Political Analyst for Denver 7 News, and a panelist on Colorado Inside Out on PBS-12 where he offers commentary on politics. He presents a perspective as a member of Colorado’s largest voting bloc, the unaffiliated voter.
Dillard is active in his community. He has been a volunteer basketball coach for over 20 years, including 15 years at the high school varsity level. He is in his second season at Martin Luther King Early College. His community work includes board service. Dillard is President of the Lincoln Hills Cares Foundation and a board member for Lincoln Hills Cares. He is a trustee for the Friends of the Denver Public Library Foundation, a board member of the University of Northern Colorado Alumni Association, and a member of the Executive Council for AARP Colorado.
Dillard's work has received recognition. He is a recipient of awards such as Public Relations Person of the Year, the Kelvin McNeill Grace under Fire Award, and the Pacesetters Awards from the Colorado Association of Black Journalists. Further awards include the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Northern Colorado Alumni Association, and the Chairman’s Award from the Dr. Martin Luther King Colorado Holiday Commission. Dillard has also lectured at institutions such as the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Redlands in California on topics that include elections and government policy communications.
